Sandi Ogin is an artist with a deep appreciation of movement, color and the beauty of the human spirit which are all captured in her work. After spending most of her professional years dedicated to teaching reading skills to students of all ages, it is a delightful suprise to see how her journey has changed directions and how painting has become an exciting passion in her life. She was only 34 when she had breast cancer and one never forgets that, helping her to include the emotional love for life in her paintings. Whether she is working with oil, acrylics or monotype prints she loves to use painterly brush strokes in a gestural style, often with dazzling colors. Some of her work has been greatly influenced by her many travels throughout the United States as well as Europe and South America, and in her tango series she tries to capture the dance's sensuality as well as its passion. Some of her work also has been influenced by her pride and love of Judaism. Her approach is to capture all that she loves in life. It may be the movement and excitement of dance, or bicycling, golf and tennis, or the grace and beauty of a woman, or the wonders of places far away, or even the lusciousness of a watermelon or a cherry.
Sandi and her husband grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Colorado in 1973. She has 3 grown children, 2 grandchildren and feels so fortunate to be able to enjoy all of them as well as the sports and beauty available in Colorado. Sandi is an avid bicyclist and tennis player, and also enjoys hiking, skiing and golf.
Sandi has studied art at Metro State College, Community College of Denver, the Denver Art Students League, and independent studies under masters such as Sandra Kaplan, Amy Metier and Chuck Parsons. Her work has been shown in numerous juried shows and galleries as well as held in many private collections.
